Explore Latin America and its global connections with the Global Studies: Global Latin America emphasis. This emphasis equips students with the historical, cultural, political, and economic expertise needed to address the complex challenges facing Latin America today, with a particular focus on the Andean region, Brazil, Central America, Mexico, and the U.S.-Mexico border. Through interdisciplinary learning, students explore a range of themes in Latin American Studies, including human rights and migration; race, identity, and politics; environment, health, and economic development; violence, conflict, and peacebuilding; coloniality and democracy; and indigenous peoples, gender, and social movements.
Our faculty, which include anthropologists, political scientists, and geographers, are at the forefront of public debate on critical contemporary Latin American topics and contribute to innovative policy solutions through our regional networks. We are also deeply engaged with students in the classroom, in the field, and through internships, community outreach, and study abroad. Furthermore, the Center for Latin American Studies, one of the leading area studies centers in the nation, provides opportunities for students to meet and collaborate with Latin American scholars and to get involved in educating others about the history, politics, environments, and cultures of this dynamic world region.
